Airline Luggage Restrictions

Carry-on Luggage Requirements

While each U.S. airline has its own set of carry-on luggage size requirements for domestic flights, 9 x 14 x 22 (length + width + height) or 45 linear inches (the length, height and width added together) is a basic measure for consumers to follow when making carry-on purchase decisions.

These dimensions include all handles, wheels and other extrusions. Our customers have found that many airlines will allow bags that are slightly larger than their stated dimensions on numerous flights. Ultimately, what is allowed to be carried on a flight is up to the individual airline and may change without notice due to a variety of circumstances.

Checked Oversized Luggage

It is important to note that some airlines may now charge a substantial fee for checking oversized luggage. The definition of oversized luggage is one of more than 62 linear inches (length + width + height). Because penalties for oversized luggage is not strictly enforced by the majority of carriers, you should check with your airline prior to travel.

NOTE: If you are at all in doubt as to whether your luggage meets your airlines restrictions, call before your trip. If you need carry-on regulations for flights within Europe, Asia or other non-U.S. locations, we recommend that you contact the airline directly.
